Labeled “Remarkable Garden”, the Parc de Majolan (Blanquefort) is home to a lake surrounded by rare species, artificial caves, a mansion and even faux decorative ruins in the neo-Gothic style. This 19-hectare complex was designed by Jean-Auguste Piganeau, a wealthy 20th century landowner, to cheer up his beloved daughter suffering from neurasthenia. The young lady could thus stroll in an enchanting setting to find serenity there. U.S. too ! Only XNUMX minutes from Bordeaux, it would be a shame to miss it.
Here, fauna and flora coexist peacefully: ducks, geese, swans and squirrels form a charming ballet. The day of our visit, we even observed gray herons taking flight.
The caves (which can only be visited in summer with a guide) are a masterpiece of rockery and ingenuity: a winding path gave access to an aquarium lit by glass roofs. If it no longer accommodates fish, this aquarium still looks good with its shell ornaments.
Notice to lovers: the configuration of the place and the romanticism that emanates from it are quite conducive to a declaration, then to wedding photos...
We don't leave without
- a detour via the Vacherie. Located on the heights of the park, this former barn has been rehabilitated by the town of Blanquefort into an urban and cultural farm. You can find (among other things) excellent sheep's cheese made/matured on site by Julien Sarres, a breeder from Béarnaise. Open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 15 p.m. to 18:30 p.m.
