When the sound of their flight echoes across the countryside, we can't help but look up to the sky to observe them. As winter approaches, these majestic common cranes, taking flight towards the South, do us the honor of flying over the Gironde lands. In short, the common cranes are back in Gironde. You can choose your hat, scarf and gloves, because we take care of the rest!

Common cranes in Gironde

For many years, common cranes have established their routine in Gironde. After having nested in Europe, particularly in Scandinavia, they embark on a long journey which takes them towards the South. Some end their journey in the Landes of Gascony, where they will spend the winter, while others continue their journey to Spain.

Looking for peat bogs and marshes for their rest, as well as harvested and cultivated fields for food, they find an ideal environment here (and we can understand them!). In Gironde, this fascinating spectacle brings together more than 50 cranes and attracts many curious people. Our two regional natural parks offer privileged locations to observe this impressive migration of birds.
