Did you know that the human presence is attested in Andernos from the Paleolithic? A Mesolithic site and a second from the Neolithic were discovered on the banks and at the mouth of the Bétey stream yielding an important
material of flint and cut stone, but also of ceramics.
In the Gallo-Roman period, on the edge of the Arcachon basin, there was an important villa of which only a small part of the remains have been preserved.
In the middle of the XNUMXth century, the Romanesque church of Saint-Éloi was built on part of the foundations of the Gallo-Roman villa that it adjoins. The site of the villa was occupied by a cemetery in medieval times. Between
the XNUMXth century and the XNUMXth century, only a few texts exhumed from the parish registers, then communal, are part of work in the church and retrace the simple and modest life of the inhabitants of the commune.
Thanks to the presence of the railway and the vogue for sea bathing at the end of the XNUMXth
century, the town expanded, under the leadership of its senator mayor Louis David, then of his successors.
It was then that Andernos became Andernos-les-Bains, an appellation it still retains today.

Opposite the tourist office, the Bois du Broustic (registered site) covers approximately 7 hectares. Its stand is composed of old oaks and old pines. It is in a way a piece of landscape inserted into the urban fabric, a true "haven of nature" dear to the Andernosians!
The markets of Andernos-les-Bains, of course, offer a wide variety of marine flavors and also all the other products of the South-West. Meet at Covered market under the Halles, place du 14 Juillet, but also at the outdoor markets (place de l'Etoile, Mauret district and place du 14 Juillet).
Today it is a renowned tourist resort which has managed to preserve great authenticity: it is therefore worth your visit!
