Tips & Tricks

Train + bike

To travel by train with your bike, here are some tips.

La Vélodyssée - Gare à Arcachon

TER

  • You can transport your bike (not disassembled) for free in most TER
  • Before choosing your station, pay attention to the accessibility of the platforms (not all stations have lifts).
  • Choose your schedules by avoiding peak times: weekdays 7am-9am and 16pm-18pm: (TER frequented by daily use) and weekends: 9am-10am and 17pm-18pm (round trip to the beach). Despite everything, places in the TER remain limited, especially on very busy lines on the coast. On the Bordeaux-Arcachon line 'a bike zone' is reserved in July and August.

INTERCITIES

On the intercités Bordeaux – Toulouse – Sète, Bordeaux-Nantes… the reservation of bicycles is offered at the same time as the purchase of the ticket.

TGV

On the TGV only a few spaces are dedicated to bicycles (2 to 4 per train). The reservation is obligatory and paying.

Practical advice in addition:
Try to access the platform in advance, remove your panniers and do not place your bike against the toilets or in front of an access door. If your bike is disassembled and in a cover, you can board any car: your bike is considered as regular luggage.
