Your itinerary

1

Castillon-la-Bataille Tourist Information Office

Ask for your booklet "On the tracks of Robin" at the Tourist Information Office in Castillon-la-Bataille. Then, and after answering the first question, go to the Saint-Symphorien church just opposite.
2

Saint-Symphorien Church

After visiting the Saint-Symphorien Church, retrace your steps and head to the Town Hall, located right next to the Tourist Information Office.
3

Town Hall of Castillon-la-Bataille

This building dates from the second half of the XNUMXth century. Its construction was made possible thanks to a bequest from Maréchal de Turenne. The peculiarity of the building lies in the shape of its council chamber, which is in a half-moon.
4

South Gate known as the Iron Gate

The Porte du Midi, also called the "Iron Gate", is the only vestige of the fortifications of the ancient medieval city of Castillon-la-Bataille. This door, which dates back to the 7th century, has a wall thickness of more than XNUMX meters. In the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, it was transformed to serve, in particular, as a place of residence. You can cross it through a passage: the latter has a semicircular arch (rue Vienne Y Vienne side) and a pointed arch (river side). The other two medieval gates of Castillon (the North Gate and the West Gate) disappeared in the XNUMXth century.
5

The docks

You can now admire the beautiful Dordogne river and the Castillon-la-Bataille and Saint-Magne-de-Castillon bridges.
