Booming, bicycle tourism is one of the most dynamic sectors of the French tourist market. France ranks second among world destinations for cycling tourism, just behind Germany. 25% of foreign tourists discover our territories by bike.
A pioneer in terms of cycle facilities (the first cycle station in France was created in 2000 in Créon in the Entre-deux-Mers region), the Gironde has gradually taken its place at the top of the “cycling destinations” in France.
The Gironde currently offers 700 km of dedicated cycle paths.
Le Tour of Gironde by bike, created in 2017, takes a large part of these tracks over 480 km to cross practically all of the Girondins tourist areas.
3 major routes, including 2 European ones, also cross our department: on the coast, theEV1-The Velodyssey runs along the Atlantic coast from Verdon-sur-Mer to the Bassin d'Arcachon for 120 km. The EV3-La Scandibérique, takes cyclists from the North to the South of France, not far from the paths of Santiago de Compostela. This is the only route that connects Paris to Bordeaux. In Gironde, the route of approximately 180 km crosses Libournais, via Saint Emilion, Entre-Deux-Mers, Bordeaux and South Gironde.
Le Canal of the 2 Seas by bike linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, runs along the Gironde estuary on its right bank as far as Blaye and Bourg or via the Médoc, crosses Bordeaux then the Entre-Deux-Mers as far as La Réole before taking the Canal de Garonne to Toulouse. It covers the Gironde for nearly 156 km.
