How long can I do the Tour de Gironde by bike?

Obviously everything will depend on your form and your speed. And never forget: The tour of Gironde by bike, to each his own tempo!  You can thus take the time to take full advantage of the wealth offered by the course. We count on average between 40 to 60 km per day, so it's about ten days to do the circuit in its entirety. You can also divide the route into several short stays (long loops of 3 to 4 days are possible).

Shorter routes departing from stations or returning by train can also be considered.
The TER stations of La Réole, Biganos, Soulac and Margaux are on the route.

Is the route difficult?

The Gironde being relatively flat, the course presents very few difficulties. Nevertheless, there are a few climbs on the route, always followed by descents. 😉 Along the coast in the dunes, along the estuary on the Royan – Mortagne-sur-Gironde stage and in Entre-Deux-Mers on the Sauveterre-de-Guyenne – La Réole stage, the calves may heat up.

About 90% of the course is on its own site, ie equipped and secure, which makes it an ideal route for families.

Can you do the Tour de Gironde by bike, racing/road bike or should you prefer a mountain bike/gravel?

The whole route can be done on a VTC type bike or even a racing bike. All cycle paths in Gironde are paved. Be careful though, on the Royan – Mortagne section (Charente Maritime department), there are some gravel sections, (the nearby road can be an alternative for racing bikes).
