La Vélodyssée®, is the French part of Eurovélo 1, Atlantic Coast Road, along the Atlantic from the North Cape (Norway) to Sagres (Portugal) over nearly 8200 km. It is one of the longest cycle routes in France (Roscoff-Hendaye, 1250 km), it largely uses cycle paths and greenways far from motorized traffic.

The Vélodyssée® in Gironde, from the Médoc to the Bassin d'Arcachon

In Gironde, the Vélodyssée® runs along the coast then the Bassin d'Arcachon for around 170 km. It begins at the Pointe de Grave (opposite the ferry pier providing the Royan/Le Verdon-sur-Mer link), then crosses the seaside resorts of Soulac-sur-Mer (from where you will see the Cordouan lighthouse) , Montalivet-les-Bains, Hourtin, Carcans, Lacanau and Le Porge, before reaching the peninsula of Cap Ferret, gateway to the Bassin d'Arcachon.

Between dunes, forest of maritime pines, fishing villages and oyster ports, your route will end in apotheosis at the foot of the Dune du Pilat, the highest dune in Europe (105 m) which offers an exceptional panorama over the entire Basin. from Arcachon.
