Village of Uzeste

In Uzeste stands the old collegiate Notre-Dame, the great work of Pope Clement V. The building is composite: a primitive Romanesque envelope, a nave from the XNUMXth century, a small Gothic portal dedicated to the Virgin Mary (second half of the XNUMXth century). The apse and the choir century were built in the XNUMXth century, the bell tower erected at the end of the XNUMXth century. The magnificent marble tomb of the Gascon pope was installed in the middle of the choir in the XNUMXth century. The stained glass windows in the three apsidioles of the choir, the work of the glass painters Joseph Villiet and Henri Feur, show that the whole life of the pontiff Clément is linked to Uzeste from his baptism until his burial. Uzeste still preserves in its streets old low houses with facade on street provided with bays with chamfered mullions of XVe and XVIe centuries. Near the old collegiate church is the XNUMXth century college house.
