The village of Andernos

Andernos-les-Bains, nestled in the heart of the Bassin d'Arcachon, is an attractive seaside resort which has retained all its authenticity. Thanks to the presence of the railway and the vogue for sea bathing, at the end of the XNUMXth century, the town expanded, under the leadership of its senator mayor Louis David, then of his successors. On the edge of the Arcachon basin, there are the remains of an important Gallo-Roman villa which is well displayed. Next door, the Saint-Éloi church retains a Romanesque sculpted decoration and wall paintings from the end of the Middle Ages. The pier, the oyster port with its colorful huts and its small oyster museum are popular destinations. Among the many villas built, there is the Villa Ignota or Maison Louis David, which summarizes all the characteristics of seaside architecture from the end of the XNUMXth century and the beginning of the XNUMXth century, where you can visit a museum.
