The lighthouses of Hourtin

Français

The Hourtin lighthouses are square towers 27 meters high, made of exposed brick masonry on a stone base. They are 200 meters apart on a north/south axis. The Hourtin lighthouses were built in 1860 to signal the interval of shadow between Pointe de Grave and Cap Ferret, where no lights were seen. The two lanterns shone for the first time in 1863. A forest road with closed access to cars (open to pedestrians and bicycles) leads to the lighthouse. It can also be reached by the network of cycle paths in the state forests of Hourtin and Carcans. It is also an opportunity for a very pleasant walk through this natural space of more than 10 hectares, part of which has been classified as a protection forest since 000. Please note that the lighthouses cannot be visited.
