The Gardens of the Château de Mongenan

German, English, Spanish

In Portets, about 20 km south of Bordeaux, the Château de Mongenan is a delightful XNUMXth century "folly" surrounded by enchanting gardens. In Mongenan, whose first owner, Antoine de Gascq, had Jean-Jacques Rousseau as his mentor, nature is omnipresent. It is not one but several gardens that you discover during your walk.
The garden "for ornament" takes up the classic design of a French park. In the garden "for pleasure", stroll in the shade of large trees with names that are as many invitations to travel, Virginia persimmon, Aussages orange tree, camphor tree, strawberry tree... Finally, take a landing of 7 steps evoking Paradise and enter the "utility" garden where baroque meets esotericism and admire some thousand species of vegetable, aromatic or medicinal plants.
