The museum is built in the basins afloat district. The architect chosen for this museum is Olivier Brochet from Bordeaux. He has just completed the renovation of the Musée de l'Homme in Paris.
Norbert Fradin, promoter-patron, is creating a museum dedicated to his other passion for the sea and sailors. He also bought the boats from the former Conservatoire de la Plaisance, in particular a legendary giant sailboat: Friday the 13th, Jean-Yves Terlain's boat launched in 1972.
Temporary exhibitions are also offered during the year.
