Church of Saint-Romain de Cartelègue

Saint-Romain is a 1890th or 1925th century church, whose initial plan has a single nave ending in a flat apse. A Gothic bell tower was attached to it later. In the middle of the XNUMXth century, an aisle was added to the north and in XNUMX the bell tower was raised. The Romanesque façade of the Saintonge school, restored in the XNUMXth century, the flat chevet lit by a triple window, the double ribbed vault over the sanctuary, give the whole a relative homogeneity. Among the remarkable furniture of this church are a painted wooden altarpiece, which serves as a setting for an XNUMXth century Virgin and Child and the high altar from the end of the XNUMXth century, in veneered marble, decorated with medallions representing Christ and the four evangelists. The chevet is listed in the additional inventory of Historic Monuments (XNUMX).
