North of Bordeaux near the Dordogne and the Gironde estuary, discover Pair-non-Pair, one of the oldest decorated caves in the world. Archaeological excavations, carried out by François Daleau at the end of the XNUMXth century, yielded several tens of thousands of tools and animal bones, sources of information on the evolution of the human species, the lithic industry and bone but also of the climate and the environment.
The cave has parietal engravings dating from the beginning of the Upper Palaeolithic, beyond 30 years before our era. Using the natural relief of the walls, they represent representations of horses, mammoths, cattle, ibexes and deer, including a megaloceros, an animal very rarely depicted.
