Ancient village of Castelmoron d'Albret

Français

Seat of a Seneschal under the Ancien Régime, Castelmoron-d'Albret (registered site) is the smallest town in France. Built on a rocky escarpment, the town is particularly picturesque with its streets, small squares and stairways. All that remains of the fortifications is the Porte du Moulin and its cobblestone path, which has retained its medieval coating. Grouped around its church restored in the XNUMXth century and its ancient grain market, the town has many old houses: the seneschal's house, the old Albret hotel and other houses which have kept the ornate entrance door wrought iron transom window by famous ironworker Blaise Charlut. The town hall is renowned for its dungeons. A succession of stairs leads to the municipal wash house and one can at leisure contemplate the houses clinging to the rock, unique with their astonishing wooden galleries.
