Notre Dame Church and Cour Mably

English

Notre-Dame Church, Place du Chapelet, is the former Dominican chapel (Historic Monument) built between 1684 and 1707 by Pierre Duplessy-Michel. It was remarkably restored in 1982. The central portal is surmounted by a bas-relief illustrating the apparition of the Virgin to Saint Dominic. She hands him the rosary that gave his name to the place. Inside, the visitor is struck by the remarkable stonework: barrel vault of the nave pierced by the eyeglasses of the high windows, groined vaults of the side aisles, organ gallery extended on the sides by two rounded balconies with harmonious curves. The quality of the ironwork contributes to the nobility of the whole.
