Porcheres mill

French, German, Spanish

The Barrage flour mill in Porchères, built between 1847 and 1850, at the same time as a dam and a canal to divert the course of the Isle, is a large rectangular stone building with two square floors which rests on four arches . The building was extended in 1863 with a commercial warehouse. The flour mill was modernized in 1920 with the use of two modern turbines replacing the old spinning wheels. In 1947, electric motors allowed the mill to operate in the event of drought. In 2002, activity ceased at the mill. During a visit, you can observe on three levels, a tangle of pulleys, belts and various old and modern machines, in a setting where old pitch pine wood is omnipresent. This jewel of the department's milling heritage is listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments (2007).
