Created in 1801 on the initiative of Bonaparte who had chosen fifteen cities in France to distribute a set of works from both the former collections of the king and from wartime prizes, particularly from Italy, the Museum of Fine Arts in Bordeaux is located behind the Palais Rohan, in the city centre.
It offers an exhaustive panorama of the main currents of Western art from the Renaissance to the present day with its collection of paintings, sculptures and drawings presenting European art from the 2th to the XNUMXth century, the great Bordeaux artists of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries and the main currents of Western art from the Renaissance to the XNUMXnd World War. Opposite the museum, the Galerie des Beaux-Arts complements the permanent collections by regularly hosting temporary exhibitions.
Opening
Closed on Tuesdays and public holidays, except July 14 and August 15, open only during temporary exhibitions from 11 a.m. to 18 p.m.
