Old Lormont district

Very close to Bordeaux, Vieux Lormont with its river frontage encourages discovery. The Saint-Martin church, rebuilt at the end of the 8th century by Archbishop Pey Perland, with its nave ending in a polygonal apse lit by windows with flamboyant tracery, is the oldest monument. In the XNUMXth century, the town was linked to the port and the church materialized the junction. The walker walks through small alleys with their staircases adjoining houses with flowery gardens: the rue du kiosk which offers a remarkable view of the Garonne and the rue du Sang, a very old alley giving access to the castle. Rue Charles de Gaulle, a very steep main thoroughfare, is lined with XNUMXth century houses. There is the Banchereau washhouse, one of the town's XNUMX washhouses. The Château de Lormont, restored in the XNUMXth century, was the residence of the archbishops of Bordeaux under the Ancien Régime.
