Village of Ares
On the edge of the Bassin d'Arcachon, Arès was built around its port, the most important in the Bassin for centuries. There remains a beautiful XNUMXth century pier, lined with its old cannons, now devoted to yachting. In the village, there is the Tour d'Arès, a former windmill and the Ovniport, always ready to welcome extraterrestrials. A few steps away stand the Château d'Arès, the Saint-Vincent de Paul church lit by the magnificent stained glass windows by Raymond Mirande and old houses such as the Bardet house. The former Arès aerium, created by the Wallerstein Foundation to accommodate children threatened by tuberculosis, is the result of a collaboration between the medical profession and a Parisian architectural firm. The buildings of the aérium represent the archetype of all the medical establishments for children, built in France between the two wars.
