Courrian Windmill

A few kilometers from the Vensac mill, not far from Lesparre, the Blaignan windmill is a Berton wing mill. Carefully restored in 1981, it still has its interior mechanism, but cannot be visited. Berton wings, a technical improvement from the 1803th century, were invented and developed by Pierre-Théophile Berton father (1861-1827) and son (1894-XNUMX). Formed of thin boards pivoting on saws articulated on the rods, they can be deployed and tightened at will. They are operated from inside the mill, thanks to a four-arm mechanism attached to the motor shaft, and eliminates the work of covering the wings. Berton wings were mainly used in the Paris Basin and the West of France.
