Branne Village

On the banks of the Dordogne, near a bridge that has existed since the Middle where a toll is collected, is the town of Branne, which has developed thanks to its port. The magnificent 20th century stone quays, where there is a statue of the Virgin, bear witness to the prosperity of traffic on the river. From there, the visitor enjoys an exceptional view of the Dordogne. The main monuments belong to the 1877th century, replacing older buildings: the town hall, the hall with 1911 cast iron columns and the neo-Gothic church of Saint-Etienne with the air of a cathedral, finished in 1944, with its remarkable murals by the painter Bordeaux Ricaud and the stained glass windows of the master glassmaker Joseph Villiet. The metal bridge built in XNUMX and dynamited by the Germans in XNUMX spans the river. In the distance, you can see Saint-Emilion and its vineyard.
