The fortress of Blanquefort had considerable importance as a stronghold for King-Duke Edward 1st. It also plays an important role during the Wars of Religion. From the 180th century, the place was abandoned by its various owners. Today, it is a splendid ruin, enhanced by the GHABLE association. The whole of the castle comprises an enclosure of 18 m of development, with in the center a vast rectangular keep of 10 m by XNUMX m raised on Romanesque bases and flanked by six round towers. These buildings date from the end of the XNUMXth century. Modifications were made at the end of the XNUMXth century, with the addition of gunboats on the small round towers. To the north, two large cannon towers stand guarding the access road. The central keep is pierced by a beautiful decorated door.
