Abbey of Saint-Nicolas de Blasimon

At the bottom of a valley are the majestic remains of a Benedictine abbey of the 1166th and 1150th centuries, possession of the abbey of Sauve-Majeure in 1925. The abbey church of Saint-Nicolas adjoined to the south by conventual buildings partially in ruins (including the chapter house), is a large rectangular room with four rib-vaulted bays. Around XNUMX, the facade and the first bay of the nave were rebuilt and connected to an old construction of the XNUMXth century from the second bay. At the end of the XNUMXth century and at the beginning of the XNUMXth century, the building took on its final appearance. The walls are rebuilt and stiffened with new buttresses and the church is covered with ribbed vaults. The two-storey facade has a portal and side arches whose sculpture is one of the most delicate in Gironde. Abbey church and ruins classified as Historic Monuments (XNUMX).
