English
A major route to Compostela, the Vézelay route crosses Entre-deux-Mers to reach the Landes de Gascogne and the immense pine forest to the south of Gironde. Between Sainte-Foy-la-Grande and La Réole, Pellegrue, a 13th century country house, is a stopover on this path. The town would have been saved from bandits in the Middle Ages by the nocturnal cries of the cranes (Pella = hill, grua = crane).
To welcome pilgrims, the town of Pellegrue has set up a Jacobean refuge in the center of the Bastide, on the 1st floor of the Tourist Office. The 6 beds it offers are reserved for pilgrims with a credential.
