The Prés Salés Ouest site, located in the town of La Teste de Buch, represents a cove of 42 hectares to the south of the Bassin d'Arcachon. Formerly open to the sea, the Prés Salés Ouest were dammed in the mid-1970s and removed from the influence of the ocean. For nearly 35 years, the site then lost its vocation as a salt meadow, gradually became impoverished and found itself invaded by invasive exotic species (in particular Baccharis, also called "false cotton tree"). However, in 2007 after years of legal battle, the municipality of Teste de Buch was authorized by the State to undertake improvements. The work then pursued several objectives: environmental, landscaping, hydraulics and public reception. Part of the site was again subjected to the rhythm of the tides while the other was dedicated to the retention of fresh water from the Craste.
