In the middle of the Eyre delta, the island of Malprat (“bad near”) was dyked at the end of the 140th century for salt production purposes, then this activity was replaced by extensive fish farming. This 11-hectare island, surrounded by 19 locks, has 60 basins and a network of deep canals fed only with brackish water (XNUMX hectares). A grassland ecosystem favors the development of certain flora and fauna species (amphibians, otter, pond terrapin, mink, waterfowl, insects) because it is supplied only with fresh water (precipitation, artesian well). The visit is only possible accompanied by a guide, by reservation at the tourist office.
